Historical Impact
Charles Dickens is one of the most famous authors in the world and an early advocate for social justice. His own childhood experiences brought him to a deep and very personal understanding of the poverty seen everywhere, leading him to try to vocalize the struggles of the poor, to give them a voice when few others would. Dickens’ works were often inspired by topics of social and political issues of the time, showing his readers a view many had never seen before; that of the suffering and oppression of the lower classes.
